TPS Candidate Chris Myers Announces Virtual Campaign Headquarters
Toledo, Ohio. Chris Myers, candidate for Toledo Public School Board, announces the immediate opening of a campaign headquarters in Second Life and a campaign meet-and-greet event in Second Life. Second Life is a virtual world.

Myers will host a first-of-its-kind campaign event in this non-traditional medium as another way to engage and inform voters through use of technology. From 8:00 -9:30 p.m., he will meet voters, talk about Toledo Public School issues and answer questions in Second Life. Media can either participate by participating in World or showing up in person at 3259 Astor (near intersection of Detroit and Anthony Wayne Trail), in Toledo.
IBM, Reuters, Harvard, many other businesses and presidential candidates are establishing presences in Second Life. Myers will become the first candidate in the area to open an office in Second Life and host an event. The virtual office will be open 24/7 so people can stop by to have a break or to learn more about the campaign whenever they are in World.
“I believe in transparent operations and engaging citizens and community members through non-traditional methods. My recording the board meetings and posting them on http://www.toledopoliticians.com and the development of http://www.ideasfortps.com and http://www.governmentfor.us clearly demonstrate that citizens are comfortable using the Internet as a source of information and a way to communicate about TPS. The success of these sites shows there is an audience receptive to using technology, and I see this as an excellent way to engage voters. My Second Life office and event is an extension of this belief,” Myers said.
In order to participate in the meet-and-greet, you will need to visit Second Life at http://secondlife.com, download and install the free software and create an account. The Myers for School Board campaign headquarters is located on the 4th floor in the AV Business Suites on the Isles of Ituana. Second Lifers can visit the HQ by clicking on the SLURL at http://myersforschoolboard.com/second_life_hq or searching for it in the world or instant messaging Chris Myers (CAM Mu) or director Auron Reardon once in Second Life. It is highly recommended that anyone interested in participation create an account, install the software and become familiar with the system before the event.
